Arts Scholarship Available!

Brookfield Arts Commission is excited to announce the opening of this year’s Art Scholarship Application for Brookfield Connecticut Residents. The scholarship is open to any Brookfield Connecticut resident that is pursuing a career in an arts related field. Are you intending to study the arts in order to pursue a career in the fine or performing arts? If you are, then you should apply for this scholarship. Past awardees have included future filmmakers, designers, dancers, musicians, fine artists and creative writers!

Applications are reviewed by members of the Brookfield Arts Commission and selected professional artists in the community. Your application should include a 250 word essay describing your artistic goals, a two page maximum resume or vitae that highlights your artistic studies, participation or experiences, and two letters of recommendation, one of which should be someone familiar with your art. We encourage applicants to submit their portfolios along with their application, this can be in the form of a digital presentation or video, depending on your specific art.

The scholarship is not based on academics or financial need. It requires you to have demonstrated a commitment to art through your studies, practice, and community art involvement, and that you live in Brookfield, are graduating high school and plan to attend higher education to pursue a career in the arts.

The BAC 2024 Scholarship Application can be downloaded from our website or may be available at your high school guidance department. The scholarship is open to any resident of Brookfield who is graduating high school in any setting this year.

Applications are due by May 6, 2024. Applications can be dropped off at Town Hall in the First Selectman’s Office, emailed to brookfieldartcommissionct@gmail.com.

Last year’s highly successful independent regional filmmaker festival makes its return. Markedly, up and coming filmmakers in Connecticut and bordering states submit their films and the Commission members review the films for inclusion. The Regional Indie Afternoon block of the Brookfield Film Festival was created to provide a platform for local filmmakers to introduce their work and discuss topics from their films as well as the filmmaking process. Overall we cannot wait to see what this year has to offer our attendees!

BAC Presents the Watercolors of Virginia Schaffer

The Brookfield Arts Commission presents the art of Virginia Schaffer at Brookfield Town Hall between February 6th and March 16th. Meet the artist at a reception on Thursday, March 2nd from 6-7 PM.
Virginia has been an artist for her entire life even if it took a backseat to raising a family and working. She started sketching as a child and later pursued studies in drawing and painting privately and at the Washington Art Association. She discovered watercolors in 2006 and has been painting with them ever since. The feelings evoked by nature give her the push to paint.
She is a member of the Sherman Artist Association, SCAN, KAA, and Gallery-25 in New Milford. In 2015, Schaffer was awarded “Excellence in Watercolor” at the Kent Spring Juried Show.
Her work in the exhibition is for sale. Please contact the BAC by email at brookfieldartscommissionct@gmail.com if interested.
